Major General (Ret.) Dennis P. LeMaster is a nationally recognized healthcare executive, strategic advisor, and retired U.S. Army general officer whose career spans nearly 36 years leading some of the nation’s largest military healthcare organizations. He brings a unique combination of executive leadership, operational command, healthcare governance, force modernization, and organizational transformation developed through service at the highest levels of the Department of Defense.
Throughout his career, General LeMaster led complex organizations responsible for delivering integrated healthcare across the United States, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific. He commanded Army community hospitals at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and Fort Carson, Colorado, before serving as Commanding General of both Regional Health Command–Europe and Regional Health Command–Pacific. In these assignments, he simultaneously served as the U.S. Army Europe Command Surgeon and U.S. Army Pacific Command Surgeon, directing healthcare delivery, medical readiness, public health, veterinary services, and dental operations for Soldiers and families across multiple continents while advising senior military commanders on health policy and operational medicine.
His final command was as Commanding General of the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCoE), the Army’s premier institution for medical education, leader development, and capability integration. There, he oversaw the education and training of thousands of military medical professionals annually while leading modernization initiatives that shaped the future structure, doctrine, and readiness of Army Medicine. He subsequently served as Deputy Commanding General for Support of the U.S. Army Medical Command (MEDCOM), providing executive oversight of enterprise sustainment, strategic planning, organizational readiness, and institutional support across the Army’s global medical enterprise.
General LeMaster’s experience extends well beyond healthcare operations. Throughout his career, he worked extensively with NATO allies, partner nations throughout the Indo-Pacific, interagency organizations, and senior defense leaders to strengthen multinational medical interoperability, improve force readiness, and advance healthcare modernization initiatives. His work has included collaboration supporting medical modernization efforts for the Ukrainian Armed Forces and advising leaders across government, industry, and academia on organizational transformation and strategic leadership.
Recognized as an accomplished educator and mentor, General LeMaster has devoted much of his career to developing leaders. He has instructed, coached, and mentored military officers throughout every stage of professional development, combining operational experience with a practical leadership philosophy centered on character, accountability, disciplined execution, and servant leadership.
Today, General LeMaster advises organizations navigating complex strategic, operational, and healthcare challenges. His work focuses on executive leadership, organizational transformation, healthcare innovation, defense strategy, veteran initiatives, and public-private partnerships. He is a member of Zensights’ Federated Healthcare Advisory Panel and a Founding Member of NAVA Edge, where he helps organizations leverage senior executive expertise to solve complex problems and develop future leaders.
General LeMaster earned bachelor’s degrees in Range Management and Forest Management, a master’s degree in Procurement and Acquisition Management, and a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College.
